Migrant Workers Legal Assistance and Quality of Life Development Project-MWLA

The Legal Aid and Labor Quality of Life Development Project (MWLA) has operated since 2008 (B.E. 2551), providing legal assistance and labor protection for marginalized workers, particularly ethnic minority groups and Myanmar migrant workers who face injustice from their employers. The project aims to uphold their rights and provide protection through the following support services:

  • Wage claims against employers
  • Liaising with government agencies and employers
  • Strengthening relationships among workers
  • Facilitating collaboration between government and private sector organizations
  • Legal protection for workers’ rights, including support in criminal cases, accident-related claims, workplace injury or death cases, and other legal matters to ensure they can exercise their rights under the law

Project Objectives

To promote and uphold equal human rights for all workers.

Main Areas of Operation

The project operates primarily in the Mueang, Mae Chan, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, and Phan districts of Chiang Rai Province and neighboring provinces.

Project Activities

Currently, MWLA focuses on legal consultation and volunteer-based coordination. Volunteers assist workers by providing initial legal guidance on common labor issues, such as:

  • Confiscation of personal documents by employers
  • Unpaid or underpaid wages
  • Workplace accidents and related legal assistance

Each volunteer is proficient in both their native language and Burmese, ensuring effective communication and support for workers in need.
